Cartoons:
This is my top entertainment. Historically I was interested in "Tom & Jerry" and "Donald Duck" movies. Actually up to now I am a regular buyer of the (Mickey) magazine. While I was preparing my master thesis in Egypt I became addicted to the series of episodes presented by the two cartoon characters : Timon & Pumpaa. I have to confess that I might not have completed writing down my thesis without their aid :). Thanks to my brother Mahmoud who was always making sure that I was having enough suplies of them. Recently, I am getting more interested in the outstanding series of The Simpsons (Inspite of all the reservations I am having)......What is next? Who knows?!! I still have to wait for what Disney and the alikes would present to us
Music and Songs: I do not listen to songs and music often but sometimes I come across one which I do like. Here are some (I do not consider most of the current arabic video clips an art from the beginning and hence they are totally out of my interest):
- "la mesh ana illy abki" (I won't cry for you) by Mohamed Abd-Elwahab.(Classic-Emotional)
- "Misr tatahadath an nafsaha" (Egypt speaks about its glory) by Om-Kolthoum.(Classic-Patriotic)
- "Soura" (A portrait) by Abd Elhaleem Hafez. (Classic-Patriotic)
- "We maloh" (What if ??) by Amr Diab.(Modern-Emotional). (Here, I liked the music most)
Poetry I am a fan of classic arabic poetry despite of my mathematical inclination. Here are some of the verses that I really love:
On love by Antara Ibn Shadad (Sometimes around 540 AD):
ولقد ذكرتك و الرماح نواهل منى وبيض الهند تقطر من دمى
فوددت تقبيل السيوف لانها لمعت كبارق ثغرك المتبسم
On the praise of the Arabic language by Ahmed Sahwqy (Around 1910AD)
On the praise of Egypt in Hafez Ibrahim's masterpiece "Masr Tatahadath An Nafsaha" (Around 1920AD)
Miscelleneous from one of my History heroes (Alimam Elshafei)(Lived around 790AD):
On how to improve your rate in gaining knowledge:
شكوت الى وكيع سوء حفظى فاخبرنى بترك المعاصى
وقال لى ان العلم نور ونور الله لا يهدى لعاص
On how to act when your emotions are so fierce:
سأله احد الشباب:
هلا سألت المفتىالمكى من ال هاشم اذا اشتد الوجد بامرئ ما ذا يصنع
فاجابه الشافعى :
يدارى هواه ثم يكتم وجده ويصبر فى كل الأمور ويخضع
And there is a verse by an Anonymous poet which I have fallen in love with as early as when I was in fifth grade. It signifies how great is the scientist's misson (It is as great as prophecy):
تعلم العلم و اعمل تنل مقام النبوة
فالله قال ليحيي خذ الكتاب بقوة

Sports: I love soccer. I love both playing it and watching it. In the fielD I prefer to act as a play maker and a forward. As a spectator, I am an old (actually not very old

but this is relative to my age !!) fan for
Alahy club in Egypt (The African club of the century in soccer as announced by
CAF). The club is number One in Egypt, Africa and middle east with many unbeaten records. Recently, it won the bronze medal in the fifa world cup for clubs in Japan 2007. Out of 11 local and continental tournaments in the last two years (Sept 2005-July 2007), the club won the all 11 titles which is considered a world-class record. On the international level, I love to watch Argetina, France, Holland and Brazil.
